Hi,

We are about to setup a newsfeed from AFP and they are asking which format we require them to send to us:

Plain Text
HTML
NEWSML
XML
WML

I am looking for some advice here on which one would be most suitable for us. What are the differences between the formats? Are they not all essentially the same? I would be tempted to g o for plain old XML myself but I didn't know if it would be better to get NEWSML from them instead..

I am hoping someone can tell me the pros and cons of each of these formats or even if anyone has any advice at all based on their own experience of using newsfeeds from Reuters or AFP..

Many Thanks,

N.

You want to go for the most structured one. Then you can do whatever you want with it most easily. The most structured of these is probably NEWSML, although I don't know what difference there would be between NEWSML and XML, because they are both XML. I guess the XML is probably in RSS form.

I would take a look at the NEWSML and XML and see which has the more structure to it, then take that. You can always output Plain Text, HTML and WML from it with a simple XSL stylesheet.
