I'm trying to setup this small network and my issue is that I want to configure it with expandability in mind. I'm looking at the HP Procurve, anyone have suggestions for a startup solution.
this would totally depend on what you are trying to accomplish and what your needs are. there are sveral ways to setup a LAN using switches, routers, and or repeaters. To
start small I would go with window pc's and use a hub that has more ports than pc's.
this is just one opinion I'm sure theres a few more out there. Good luck !!!
OS really shouldn't matter, Mac or Win or Unix. If it were me, I'd go with at least one of each without question. Customer networks are almost NEVER "all windows" or "all MAc" they are normally a mix of "Netware and windows" or "NT and windows with 3 macs" or "NT server, win98 machines and a Unix box" I've worked very little with the Procurve stuff, I prefer Cisco or 3com. Go with Cisco if you have the cash, it's a marketable skill and the resale is nearly guaranteed. 3coms are easy to work with, play well together, and are somewhat less expensive. As far as the Procueve hardware, I can't say good or bad.
