What is the best CCNA test prep book you can get now . Need to get ccna before end of the year . Had CCNA before but let it lapse so I'll have to read again and see if there is anything new I have to know . I'll have to snooze thru all the fun stuff again like the OSI layers . Anything new that I have to look forward to???

The CCNA exam is much harder than the older one so am told. I recently passed CCNA set it as a news years resolution!Book wise I would recoomend the Sybex book and the cisco press book. The sybex book is very easy to understand and geared to you passing the exam and has some good labs to practice. But on some areas it doesn't go into enough detail and thats where it is useful to have a second source of info. With regards to the exam you will need to have:

1)Good knowledge of subnetting and VLSM
2)Switching :Vlans,STP,VTP etc
2)Know stuff like RIP,OSPF(single area),EIGRP
3)Nat
4)Access-lists
5)Frame-Relay and other WAN stuff like PPP eyc
6)ISDN-Know the reference points and look at dialer profiles

Questions are a mixture of drag and drop, simulation, problem solving, looking at outputs and theory ones.

Pass mark is 849
Good luck hope that helps.

I agree on the Sybex book - since you have already got a background as a CCNA the Sybex book should bring you up to date.

I have posted the following information several times - these are free CCNA Lab books (PDF)with tons of practice

Here is a free pdf download for a GREAT CCNA lab book -

There are several hundred pages of labs designed for 1, 2 and 3 router setups for the CCNA exam.

Matt was my "train the trainer" instructor in the Cisco Network Academy System.

I hope this helps!! It is a great book and the price is right(FREE)!!!

Before taking the exam, I highly recommend you also look at the RouterSim exams (the Sybex book includes a demo). Those questions are closer to the actual exam than any you see in either the Sybex or the Cisco books (in my opinion) and do a very good job helping you see where your knowledge may be deficient.

Of all the things I've missed,
I lose my mind the most.
