the best one (hard, but really the best)
- the C programming language
- 1977-8 prentice-hall inc
- brian w. kernigan & dennis m. ritchie
(the author of c)
I won' mention K & R since it was already, but here's my take:
"C" Primer Plus by Stephen Prata
the basics. My copy has fallen apart from use.
C: a Reference Manual by Samuel Harbison
On par with K & R
The Standard "C" Library by P.J. Plauger
my personal favorite for a reference manual
Advanced C Tips and Techniques by Paul and Gail Anderson
one of the best pointers and arrays treatment I've seen. out of print but available used at Amazon
The C Library by Kris Jamsa ISBN 0-07-881110-4
If you are a beginner this has an excellent selection of macros, string & array manipulation functions, sorting routines, etc. obscure book and probably out of print
