Hi

I am going to buy some books to study for OCP DBA and researching which books are best..It seems like it really depends on the person, but what would you think which book would be the best??

The books I am interested in buying are:

Oracle Press - Couchman 8i Exam Guide
Sybex DBA study kit
Exam Cram series

Is these any other book(s) you recommend?
I appriciate any response.
Thanks!

I used the following two:

1. Oracle Press - Couchman 8i Exam Guide.
2. ExamCram for Performance Tuning.

Then go through all STS sample questions. If you still feel uncomfortable, then go buy the questions.

If you pass the exam by going through the above, then you'll become a 'paper' certified DBA like I'm now. However it might be a good start if you decide to take the dba route.

Thanks for the response, Duo.

I am looking at STS website..

A couple of questions..

1)Would you think its possible to pass all exams without it?

2)Which delivery type did you use..(Download/CD, Online30daysAccess, Online90daysAccess)

Thanks!

I never used the STS and I easily passed all exams with just reading books. So I would say that it is definitely possible. Looking at the STS tests I would say that they will definitely help with your confidence before taking an exam but if you don't know the material than you won't learn it from the STS tests.

Hi wushutwist.

Thanks for responding to me.

You are right..I would use the STS tests if I feel not confident enough after reading and studying some books.

Could you please tell me which book(s) you used for the exams?

Thanks!

Hi YA
I used the Couchman book for PL/SQL and I didn't like it at all. There's a lot of errors on the questions and answers. I'm not saying that the book is a total loss but just make sure that you verify the answers. I just took the 8i exam yesterday and got 53 out of 57. I would suggest that you follow the topics that Oracle outlined for the exam. I used Sybex and Couchman.

Hi MarcLara .
Thanks for your information.

Thats what I 've heard about Couchman's book. Still lots of people are
recommending the book tho.

Recently. I 've ordered Sybex kit and exam crams on amazon.com.
I will give it a try with these books and see how it goes.

I will follow you and take and "pass" the 8i PL/SQL exam soon!
