What's the best Flash 5 book for a novice? Especially, what is a good book on how to get the most out of Flash 5 without knowing Action Script? Thanks.

I have the whole bible series for Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, you name it. The best I have seen so far.

Put out by IDG Books Worldwide Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

Yeah, I've got the bible.. Got two pages in it in two days... It's going to take forever, but I've scimed through it and it'd got some good stuff in it... If you like to read it's the best. I'm just to darn lazy to read I guess.. I'll just let you read it then I'll ask you all the questions I have... LOL

No but seriesly, it's a very good book. It's worth every penny...

Hi Dreamchaser

I'd suggest Flash 5 GRaphics, Animation & Interactivity by James Mohler. He gives really good animation tricks... which comes pretty handy when you work with Flash.

Hi,
I have both of the books mentioned above and highly recommend them.
I also have Flash4 Magic, and Flash4 Creative Web Animation.
They are all great books. Even though I've upgraded to Flash5,
the others are still helpful. Also, see for her
CD's and videos on Flash and other graphics programs.

But Z-Best book of all for starting out (in my humble opinion)
is"Foundation Flash5" (check out It's 600+ pages and only $30 list (no cd, but not very important).
But I just like the way they write and teach.....very down-to-earth,
and take you step-by-step through everything, including ActionScript.
Here's a sample of the tutorial I did from the book (casestudy8xb.html). It's not complete yet, but is a good workout to learn the
major parts of the program. Now I can go back and edit everything to create
an entirely different look, based on what I learned.

Also, be sure to go through the lessons and tutorial that came with
the program (under "Help").
Hope that helped =)

The only book I have on Flash: New Masters of Flash by Friends of ED.

Might not be perfectly suited to a novice but would certainly give you impetus to hang in there.
