I need to install antispyware on remote clients. I am very familiar with Hijack This, Spybot Search and Destroy and the free version of adaware. I am looking for for the best antispyware that meets the following requirements:

1. Protect the home page from being changed - I am not really concerned about realtime scanning because we plan to schedule antispyware scans every night. However, we need an antispyware scanner that can silently protect the home page during the day. We have purchased Adaware plus. Whenever a peice of spyware attempts to change the home page it pops a box to allow or deny the change. After we deny the spyware will always attempt to change the home page later. Is there a way to configure Adaware Plus to protect the home page without popping up the notification box? If not, does one of the other antispyware programs like spysweeper or pest patrol silently protect the home page.

2. Good logs

Finally, where are a few good places where I can download the really bad spyware so that I can test out the various antispyware products. Especially spyware that changes your home page?

Thanks

I agree. However many of my users are not willing to leave there comfort zone. We need something that will work with IE.

I personally like pest patrol, not sure if it does that, I can check later. Spysweeper has this I'm sure. Pestpatrol has a much more thorough scanner, I would consider looking at the corporate edition.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Try this website for a list of "rogue/suspect anti spyware products and websites". It also has hyperlinks to 2 watchdog type anti spyware programs you may be interested in. Spyware Guard and Spyware Blaster. I have both running together on 2 of my machines and the indidence of spyware/adware/hijackers has become non existant.

Thanks to vop for the link. See thread760-896094.

I would educate the user that Firefox IS the best protection.

People don't care. They want to click once and get to their start page. To most people, Yahoo.com IS the internet, not IE. The track record for Microsoft and security is far worse than the worst Mozilla bugs.
