What would cause the Router to drop a PC from the DHCP table?Hence disabling one of the two PC's on the LAN.The other PC connects fine to the NET via router.Suggestions?Thanks.
DHCP renewal is done through a broadcast.
If there are iffy things about the connection, the dropped workstation should show the problem with an IPCONFIG /all report of its status.
You can configure the length of the lease provided by the DHCP server of the Linksys. Type 999999 for lease length, it will revert to its maximum.
But I suspect a firewall issue blocking broadcast traffic from the client to the DHCP server for renewal. Remove, not just disable, any firwall and see if the problem repeats.
Coincidentaly, this problem occured after a power outage.Could just be coincidence at hand...OOOooo.Just seems a bit odd to me after the network has been running flawless for 2 months.I must add that the machine that had been dropped was DMZ enabled due to some special remote access functions.Unfortunatley,im not on -site right now.I will check the NIC for functionality, and power cycle everything, then possibly renew.Later.
Reset the router, it may have restored improperly with faulty power. It needs clean 5 volts, and a temporary power-outage may have left the router in a mixed state.
Have someone hold the reset button in for 10 seconds.
If the router is over two months old, you should update the firmware for the device. See the Linksys Web site.
