BESFR41 & Bellsouth fastaccess (PPPoE)

Setp up: Win98, Linksys BESFR41 router, bellsouth fastaccess (IFITL). After helping a friend try set up a network I am running into this problem. The pc and the router talk no problem. When trying to connect with the ISP I get the error message "Can not find PPPoE Server". Doubled checked user name and password, all cables are plugged in correctly. No modem required with IFITL. If I remove the router form the mix, we connect no problem. Bellsouth and Linksys could not help. Any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean: "No modem required with IFITL" ?

Also, did you check the DNS settings on the router?

Not sure what your question is. IFITL does not require a modem. It is fiber from the street to the pc.

So the connection, IFITL, runs over a CAT5 cable directly from the wall to your pc/router, right? If that's the case, then I spologize since I'm not familiar with that type of connection.

Usually, you leave the DNS settings to the default on the router. It should be able to "autodetect" a server over the connection. Just wanted to make sure you didn't punch them in manually.

Since the "autodetect" feature doesn't appear to be working, get the DNS server IP address from Bellsouth. Punch them into the router manually and see if it makes a difference. Other than that, I'm not sure what else to suggest... ~cdogg
