BENT 8.5 failes to backup EX2000

I have disabled some accounts in the AD but not deleted the mailboxes and now the backup fails.
Isn`t it possible to disable an account but not delete the mailbox?

Because the accounts are disabled, Backup Exec will probably have a hard time connecting to those specific mailboxes.

A good check is:
1. log into the backup server as the backup service account
2. go into outlook (or mapi complient application)
3. open a mailbox that had the account disabled.
4. open a mailbox that user has not been disabled.

If you cannot open the mailbox in step 3, Backup Exec won't be able to open it as well, best deselect those mailboxes in the backup selections for the Full Backup.

Why cant i disable an account and still backup the mailbox?
Is it something with the account that backup exec uses?

Backup Exec uses mapi32.dll to communicate with the mail messages. I would say AD has restricted attaching to the mailbox due to the account being disabled. Try my previous suggestion to prove that.
Someone out there with more Exchange knowledge may better answer your question.

I suspect if you are backing up the information store (which Backup Exec uses a different connection dll), you will infact get those mailboxes backed anyway up as all mailboxes are part of the Information Store. The down side is if you want to restore individual mail from these mailboxes, you would need to restore the entire Information Store (some people redirect the IS to a spare test server).
