Bench test a power supply 1

Is there a way to jump out the 20 pin connecter to see if the power supply works. Have jumped out the pins for the start button on the MB but nothing. The only thing I get is the LED on the supply.
 
If it's a standard ATX power supply touch the green wire to a black one
 
But you have to be careful. Some require some load to regulate properly.

I think I have seen some power supply testers at and some other sites. I think they use some resistors or somehing to simulate a load. Without some sort of tester you have to hook up a motherboard.

They had both the power the supply tester and the load resistor. They also sell ATX on/off switches under case accessories.
