My setup and problems:

-2 PCs running Win98 SE
-Server PC has two identical NIC cards installed (same manufacturer and model) and PPPoE
-physically, one nic of the Server connects to the DSL modem and the other nic connects to the 2nd PC (Client) by a Crossover cable
-file & printer sharing works fine (Protocols added on both PCs: TCP/IP, IPX, NetBUI)

-played around with ICS for a long time...just couldn't get the internet sharing to work

-a friend has the same setup for Rogers Cable connection (no PPPoE here) and Sygate software (all he had to do was to install Sygate on both PCs...and at installation time specify one as the server and the other as the client...that's it...no other changes was to be made...took 2 minutes or so in total to share the CABLE internet)

-I understand that I have DSL connection and it has the extra PPPoE issue to worry about...searched around Sygate's website for installation issues for DSL connection...only thing found was that on Server system with Sygate installed...u will have to specify PPPoE as the adapter that connects to the internet

-so, I myself got the Sygate 3.0 just for trial
-at installation on Server, it asks to manually select adapters and since I have two identical nic cards, I had to play around with the settings to see which one connected to the other PC (I had chosen PPPoE for the adapter connecting to the internet)

-still, on server system, Sygate doesn't recognize the connection type and on Client system sees the Server to be offline

any help or comments would be appreciated...specially if u have the almost same setup...been trying to get this to work for so long

I know it's much easier with a hub or a router...but I only got 2 PCs to connect...so crossover it was!!

Hi,
It is highly probable that the 2 identical NIC cards is the cause of your problems. It is recommended to use different cards.
