I recently got a Belkin F5D6231-4 Wireless Router and two Belkin PCMCIA
Network Cards to go with it.
The setup is:
NTL Set Top Box plugged into Router.
One Wireless NIC in each of our 2 Laptops.

This setup has worked fine for the last few months without any problems.
However, last night we had a powercut and the router went off.

When everything came back on again the wireless part had stopped working.
The router connects to the internet and functions normally when connected up with a cable. I can also access the router's setup site.
However both wireless NIC's fail to find any network. The connection indicator light just flashes, meaning it cannot connect. I have tried removing and reinstalling the NIC on one of the machines just but make sure but it makes no difference.
Its almost like the wireless function has just been switched off. but that isn't possible (is it?!)

I have done numerous resets of the router, including a hard reset using the button on the back of the unit. I have also restored settings that I backed up just before Christmas.
All this has failed to work.

HELP!!!
Has anybody got any suggestions?

Cheers,
Tom

Any chance that the power outage fried the router? After a hard reset, the settings should all default back to what they were when the router was new.

I have seen config settings get wiped by power fluctuations, did you check the router to see if all your settings are still in there ? Do all the settings that you backed up match what's on your nic cards? SSID, WEP, mac address filtering etc..............

A power surge could have impacted the router, the fact that you can bring up it's config screen is good. It is possible the config reverted back to it's default if the outage was long enough. It certainly reverted after you did the hard reset.

If you backed up your setting restoring will solve the problem. If you didn't then you will need to reset the logon password, SSID and WEP and all the other options you changed to keep your network secure. You should be able to determine some of the changed options by seeing what the pccard NICs have for settings.

Hi all, Thanks for your suggestions.

I rang belkin technical support and they took me through a lot of the things you have suggested, resetting the router, restoring defaults, upgrading firmware etc and then came to the conclusion that the router had fried during the power outage.

Took it back to the store I got it from and they exchanged it without question.

Plugged the new one in, restored my settings to it and everything worked first time!

Thanks for all you help
