My connection has been much more stable since I had all the issues mention in this thread. I stopped getting huge line attenuation figures being reported as well.

However there would be times when the router would lose connection for 5 minutes or so, although it would normally auto re-connect. Speeds have been acceptable too, consistently reported by BB speed test as 6Mb down and 400Kb + up. But it has always bothered me that the up noise margin was nearly always reported as 0 Db.

I spotted a Belkin professional surge protector in the local store the other day and thought that although I already had the router plugged into an anti-spike socket, having the phone line protected as well would be a good idea. So I bought one and fitted it.

The router connected immediately on power up but took an hour or so to and a couple of reboots in addition to the power cycle boot to settle down after fitting the new socket and a speed test after the initial connection was 400Kb down, 320Kb up! But now things are back to normal except I now have a much better noise margin figures. I can only assume the belkin is doing something strange because whereas before the microfilter was plugged straight into the telephone wall socket, it is now plugged into the belkin and the belkin is plugged into the telephone wall socket.

So if anyone else is having issues of this nature and or wants to protect their equipment from spikes on both the mains and the telephone line this looks to be a neat product.
