Beginners advice needed for dreamweaver. 2

Hi
I am a complete novice to dreamweaver - never used it. Im pretty computer literate but have no knowledge of website construction or its language.

I have a great website which i designed but somebody else 'built'. I need to know whether it is feasible for me to buy dreamweaver, and learn from scratch using help books etc, so that i can access, add to and alter my site without having to pay this guy to do it for me every couple of weeks.

Do i need to get information from him to do this - codes etc? Or will the web hosting company have all that? I need a bit of patient friendly advice, and am well aware that i sound like an idiot in amongst all you techies out there.

Any answers in laymans terms much appreciated! Thankyou in advance.

Hi Guy,

Basic HTML is easy. You can find lots of books and classes.
You don't necessarily need Dreamweaver for editing. If you are literate with other coding languages, you could edit with any text editor.

Dreamweaver makes editing easier (but you still need to know html.) If the person who built the site used special Dreamweaver tools, then DW will really help.

A lot depends on the complexity of the site. If it is built with CSS (cascading style sheets), that becomes lots trickier.

Another question is "what you want to do?" If you just want to update some text, it may be easy. If you want to do design changes, it can be a lot harder, depending how the site was built.

thanks harry. I am a photographer, so i need to add pictures, and make pages like the ones that are already there. there is no 'movement' on the site, just text and photos.
what is a cascading style sheet? May be you could look at my site and tell me if i have them!? my name, then .com
also still in the dark about having to extract info from my webguy. dont really want to contact him. will the hosting co. have the codes or whatever it is i will need?

I looked at your site. There is some CSS (cascading style sheets) there. There will be a bit of a learning curve there.

By the way, your photography is great.

Can you tell me which bits of my site are cascading style sheets?? It sounds very exciting....i didnt even know i had them!
