i've never used illustrator before. i put it on my computer and installed it and activated it. everything seems to work i think, apart from the part i need most, the illustrator help tab, it says press f1 but when i click it or press f1 nothing happens. am i just doing something really stupid

Do you get teh hlp when you go to Help menu? Help will open in your browser

If not, something is screwy, possibly a bad install. The most common thing that causes bad installs is having antivirus software running while you're doing the install. Illustrator is the most prone, of all Adobe apps, to be effected by this.

If it's just the F1 key that does not bring up help, there's a possibility that the key is mapped to another function on your computer. If that's the case the F1 key can be changed to something else in Ai, but I'd let that go till you're more familiar with the app.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

when i click on help with the mouse all the other stuff comes up like about illustrator , about plug in's, registration etc, its just the actual manual that doesn't come up.
