As a php beginner I downloaded several examples
1) time of day
2) a graph
3) another graph
4) a database example
5) another database example
guess how many worked (IExWind98 or RH8 Mozilla)
Answer: 1)

so people tell me that 2)..5) etc will work if I tweak this or that, but I'm tired of tweaking, and my customers refuse to tweak. So do I persist in head-banging with php?

I had the same problem when I started, just got things running then the webserver upgraded to PHPver 4.2 and everything failed, as ver 4.2 has register globals set to off as the standard. Ive found that a lot of scripts available on the web tend to rely on register globals being set to on.
The database example will probably require mysql to run and need to be configured to connect to the mysql server
The graph scripts will require gdlib to be installed in PHP

Hope this helps
Ian Infinity exists! - I just haven't worked out a way to get there yet.
