Hello, I work in a photo lab that has a broken Agfa Automatic Photo Printer. We still allow the users to order their prints using a touch-screen interface designed to output directly to the printer in data that is written in an XML format. I've been able to open this file in Microsoft Excel as an XML table that lists the quantity, size, and any special instructions/modifications made to the photos. However, I currently am using the trial version and our lab has no need for Microsoft Office other than this specific function. The cost of MS Office exceeds our budget due to current competition in the photo printing industry, plus the added challenge of broken equipment.

My question is, is there a freeware program that reads XML data and puts it in a table format? I tried Open Office, Open Calculator, but this does not read the file in the same way that Excel plus Office Tools and Office Compatibility will.

I can attach a copy of the xml file if it is needed for more specific answers.

Further, for future enterprises, if we purchase an Epson R1900 printer, is there a way to synchronize it with the .xml file to print according to instructions directly input by the customers using a Dell Windows XP computer and Adobe Photoshop?

Excel by itself, assuming you do not have a qualifying product for an upgrade, is $180. How much time have you lost trying to find something else and how much is your time worth?
