hi

few queries from reportnet beginer.

1. Create the data object details in the framework manager, create a package and publish.
Q: Changing the contents in the Framework manager (adding/removing data tables/columns) will automatically reflect in report studio?

2. Is there a way to set the home page for the users to some default page (something like what we create in myPage) and give links based on the rights

3. Which document details the templates to modify to customise the display (like in upfront we have upfront.utml, main.utml etc etc)

4. Anyway to restrict some users from going to ReportStudio and/or QueryStudio

5. So the way to follow is create packages in Framework manager, publish, create reports, set access rights for them. ????

6. What are the procedure we have to move to production? Is it the content manager database backup and restore or ...

thanks,
Sudhi

1- The package needs to be republished for Report Studio to take advantage of the changes.

4- Take a look at the 'Capabilities' section of the documentation.

5- If I understand this correctly, this is the way to do it.

6- You can deploy the entire content store from the portal and then import the deployment into the production content store via the portal.

with related to 4,

i logged in as Administrator from Series 7 namespace. Clicked capabilities, Query Studio - Set properties - Permissions. I removed all the existings list and added the A user from Series 7 Namespace.

Next thing I tried is login as another user who is not set the rights for Query Studio. But still the user can see the query studio link, enter inside, create queries, save it.

which step i missed out?

thanks,
sudhi

Make sure that the Cognos group 'Everyone' is removed from the System Administrators group membership.

Sudhi,

Per questions 2 and 3, we did some customization using the \crn\templates\ps\portal\system.xml file. For example, we changed the default page to the "Public" page and renamed the page to "Reports". Then users have access to specific folders in that tab:

<param name="defaultPortalPreferences">
<pref name="home">public</pref> <!-- [welcome | public | personal ]

Keep in mind that changes in the system.xml are global.

I believe there are more customization options in CRN 1.1, but haven't checked them out yet.

thanks,

say in the login screen, I want to put the title and company logo and other common help/contact information etc. like that i like to add/remove few things after the logon. To add with this the message "Copyright (C) 2004 Cognos Incorporated. All Rights Reserved....." want to remove. no information abt the remplates behind these.
regards,
sudhi
