Hi all,

does BEGIN..END TRANSACTION have any impact when an ODBC data source is used ? Or is this completely separate from the ODBC commit/rollback functions ?

Thanks

Don't quote me, since I've never actually USED ODBC myself, but the VFP commands BEGIN TRANSACTION and END TRANSACTION are internal functions that simply buffer the changes in memory and then write them all at once. To use server transactions you'll need to use SQL Passthrough.

In other words, no, these commands have nothing specifically to do with ODBC. You can use them on regular FoxPro tables as well.

You can use transactions with ODBC, if the backend supports them.

Have a look at the sqlcommit and sqlrollback commands in the help file. The show how to use transaactions and the settings you need. You can do transactions with remote views as well as SQL pass through.
