Hi,
I'm experiencing some strange problems with my internet connection:
my config:
two pcs(win95,win98se) wired into befw11s4
two (win2k,winXP)wirelessly to befw11s4
one cisco bva122 cable modem (working fine when directly connected to a pc)
My ISP connection works without host/domain naming and with dynamical addressing
My small four pcs Lan is working but no internet connection at all !
I tried to reset, restart cmodem then router then pc; I checked with my isp no locking on mac address. Adapters set-up are on 'obtain ip automatically', dhcp of router is distributing addresses so what ?
Thanks a lot for help
Denis

Change the subnet assignments of DHCP on the router. It is likely there is an issue with the DHCP addresses being handed out by the modem.

On the linksys set the default LAN IP of the router to 192.168.2.1, so that it hands out addresses in the 192.168.2.x subnet rather than a conflicting one.

Thanks for your advice. I forgot to mention that I already tried to change the default router's ip to 10.10.10.1 but no way, connection still failing. I'll try your suggestion and get back to you. My answers are a bit delayed as I live for now in Switzerland. Thanks again for your professional help.

You might try on the modem setup, Advanced tab, using the MAC cloning feature. Many cable systems use MAC authentication.

Use ipconfig /all or winipcfg /all on the machine that worked with the modem installed directly. Take the "Physical Address" shown and use it for the MAC clone. Enter the address without spaces or "-" marks between values.

It's a bit late but I'd like to thank you for your help; I found the way to make the router working by cloning the pc nic's MAC address to the router. It took me some time to find the solution as the ISP which provided the c-modem told me it wasn't locking on MAC address (which isn't true). I'm sorry to say that but DO NOT BELIEVE ANYBODY AND TRY BY YOURSELF!
Thanks again &
regards
Denis
