My BEFW11S4 V2 WAN Activity LED is constantly flashing in unison with my Motorolla 4200 Surfboard cable modem's activity light ... even when I have no computers or anything whatsoever attached. The two lights flash together about 60 - 90 times a minute. I unplugged both overnight and no change. I have disabled the wireless feature and no change. If I connect my laptop directly to my cable modem and disconnect the router the activity light on my cable modem is IDLE like it should be.

Is this normal? And if it IS normal is anything reaching my ISP? ... or is the activity just between the router and the cable modem.

I am worried either my router has gone insane or my home "network" is not as secure as I think it is.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the BEFSR41 router and the WAN activity lamp flashes in unison with the lamp on the Surfboard modem also. I think this is normal. I always assumed that this was the polling from the cable system.

Thanks, at least I'm not the only one this is happening to.

rainman,
actually its just the communication between the router and the modem...theres no need to worry about the security...
this is only normal...

I thought it was too, but when I unhooked the cable provided by my ISP from the cable modem all activity stopped. So I figured the activity was beyond my network.

You have uPnP enabled on the router. That is what the flashing is all about. Ignore it.
