BEFW11S4 DMZ Host

I've been unable to communicate through my Linksys BEFW11S4 via Lotus Notes through my CheckPoint VPN. I've tried everything. this appears to be a very common problem with no answers. If I connect directly to my modem via a wired ethernet PCMCIA card, and use my ISP WinPoet software, everything works perfectly. If I set my computer as the DMZ Host, should I not be able to connected just like I do when I'm directly connected to the modem? Isn't the DMZ Host similar to being as directly connected to the modem? Thanks.
