I tried to upgrade the firmware on my BEFSR81, and it just went all to hell. The program just disconnected in the middle and now my BEFSR81 just sits there with the red diag light blinking.

I also had to reboot my cable modem and computer to just any connection backup... I have no idea what that was all about.

Anyway, now I have the router/gateway sitting there flashing, holding down the reset button dose nothing, plugging into my computer and trying to access 192.168.1.1 (default, never changed) does nothing.

Does anyone know how to resurrect this?

thanks smah, I'll try this when I get home tonight.

The loooong reset that smah suggested above should sort the issue.

You might think about:

. a full reset as smah suggested above prior to any firmware update;

. if you are using a Linksys tftp utility, upgrade it prior to the firmware upgarde. Yes, it can make a very important difference.

. if you can use the Web-management page of your Linksys router, do so.

. Review all the discussions here: (do a search on "befsr81"

the full reset issue isn't doing anything... I held the button down for 20+ seconds with no change. But I'll obviouslly try that again.

I'm unfamilar with tftp... unless that's the program which updates the firmware, in which I case downloaded it immediately prior to running the update, from linksys, so I would hope it's the most recent.

I can't even ping the router, much less use the web-management page.

Will do.

Usually when that happens, your router is dead ! I doubt you can revive it if the long reset doesn't work.
