I am having trouble with a user connecting to the companys VPN using the BEFSR41. The user has thrown the switches both ways on the IPSec and PPtP passthru's without success. Whenever he tries to initiate the VPN tunnel, he get's a no response error from our firewall (the firewall is working properly). He can run a dial-up to the Internet and connect just fine, the problem only came up when he connected to DSL using the Linksys. The ISP (Earthlink) says they permit VPN traffic.

Any ideas?

Return it and get the BEFSX41, designed for VPN.

There is a technote on the LinkSys site that says you should also turn on port triggering for ports 47, 1723 and 500. Did you try that?

Actually, I think it's the BEFVP41 that's designed for VPN. We're going to use that in another application.

This router is at a remote site and I don't have access to it. Are the port triggering settings in the setup for the Linksys? If so, where and how are they set? Same for the MTU.

Thanks.

All settings for the router are web accessible through the default router IP, usually 192.168.0.1, no user name, password Admin.

The port triggering and forwarding ranges are under the "Advanced" tab.

MTU is set on the first setup page, at the bottom.

bcastner,

Thank you very much. I apologize for such an easy question, but I don't have access to this router, and the target user is not a high end computer user, so I wanted to be sure of where the settings were at before I contacted him.

Thanks.
