I'm considerring setting up IIS 5 on my windows 2000 server. Before i expose my LAN to the internet, i'd like to secure it so internet visitors can't hack me.

I was wondering what i should install/configure do keep our internal security as it currently is.

I currently have a router that acts as a NAT and DHCP server, the win 2k server has active directory and dns (along with iiS) installed.

Please, help a newby out :D
Thanks,

Well I am sort of a newbee too but I know that you turn off ALL services that you will not be using and apply all current patches for security which you have already probably done.

IN the Internet Service manager, turn off FTP, SMTP, and newsgroups if you will not use them. This helps close down ports that hackers might try to use.

Do you have any other kind of firewall?
I am not sure how well ZoneAlarm Pro is with Internet servers but it's worth a try just to add another layer of protection.

Ofcourse you have antivirus protection on both your client PC's and your Server PC's. Certain software are only good for client PC's and not good for Server PC's.

Let us know what else you find so I can also learn from you.
