We have a release 8 Definity PBX (this PBX does not have any call center features). We also use an external monitoring system to record calls on certain extension 24 x 7. Currently we install these beep-tone boxes to the handset to beep every 10 seconds alerting the caller that their call is being monitored. We have to do this by law. Is there anything inside of our system that would give off an audible beep based on the extension the call is going through? Would this be in the station form or COR? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You don't mention what type of phones you are using. I know Callmasters are capable of generating that beep. Otherwise, I'm not aware of a way to generate that from the PBX. Doesn't mean there isn't a way though.

Something we used to do instead of the beep is to force each call to hear a "calls will be recorded" type announcement before they were queued. That is enough in this area to satisfy that legal requirement.

Hope that helps.

We also use the "your call may be monitored or recorded" announcement to satisify the legal requirements for my state (Texas). However, you can also generate the tone from the PBX if you are recording the calls through Service-Observe. Just cha sys fea and on page 10 (Call Center System Parameters) put a YES for Service Observing: Warning Tone?

Susan: Please explain what you mean by recording the calls through Service-Observe? I want to remove thoes little recording boxes for years! I currently record port side.

Thanks in advance

We use 7406D and 8410D phones. Since we monitor through the an adjunct on the phone system I am not sure we can use the service observe feature since that is more manual than automatic, isn't it? Or can I turn on service observe to these phones on a continuous basis so that they get the beeping tone alert, even though the pbx is not recording the calls, and external system is.

I have turned on the service observe warning tone in the past and it's so loud, long and annoying that it's not practicle to use. I think it actually prohibits people from talking and disrupts the conversation. I use the TBR-10 Beep tone generator boxes.

I have used DynaMetrics TLP-107 which inserts the beep and has a volune control. . . easy to connect to just about any phone model. . . somewhat inexpensive $80
