Hi there,

I'm generally a desktop support guy with good troubleshootin skillz, I believe i will get an interview purely because this company struggles to find livelink specialists or they just need someone to undertake this role and I will be willing to do it!

anyway could you look at the job spec and give me some advice, i have some exposure to livelink from an end user point of view trying to fix the core connection etc.. from what i recallat my previous jobs.

My only hope is they will be willing to train me up as I don't really have any experience in this field but how technical a role is this ? sorry for the long job spec - is there any documentation i could read up on so i would be more prepared ?

heres the job spec

I have worked in various roles in livelink so hopefully you will take this in the right spirit

Livelink junior system administrator-He/She is responsible for installation which means that you should have general server side habits like knowing how computers, databases, web servers communicate and so on.You should also be a good organized person who can read profuse OT documentation and use your own xperiences to do justice to the job.Contrary to a database admin a livelink system admin if all he/she was doing will have nothing lese to do in a 8 hrs windows so they will actually done another hat
For starting people installation in a VM before a job is recommended to see what the interviewer is aking.
Livelink system admin Senior--In this the admin starts taking more and more responsibilities like writing reports, processing user problems etc.For bonuses he would start look at timing logs try to find bottle necking request, analyze trace errors etc
Livelink Sysadmin Plus the occasional scripting guy-In this role this guy will start looking a automating the chores preferably using lapi or webservices on examples and own intelligence
Livelink Sysadmin Plus Plus-Will start messing with workflows and maintenance of them.May start writing Object Importer stuff the scope is endless.
Livelink Oscript Developer-He/she can actually change how livelink works. Not many companies want them but in big organizations livelink out of the box will not suffice, nor will kludges made with lapi or webservices suffice. Most companies will pay thru their nose paying OT and other vendors for which they will get modules written in you guessed it oscript. In most companies I worked I was fortunate to hone my skills in oscript and we think we deliver value. Most good oscript developers know livelink pretty intimately
LAPI/CWS developer-Thesae are mostly fly by night developers who get hired to do a kludge on systems like integration. They are by far the most demanding as they will w want examples in every situation they face. Some catually take interest and get better at it.
User Admins/KnowledgeAdmins-these are generally intelligent people who are trained in taxonomy and can respond to user requests/permissioning /metadata etc kind of a one level up than the local help desk people.

Really your interest in how to progress will actually make you succeed.None of the above things I write above is rocket science and with perseverance and burning the midnight oil I have seen many admins come up and become very good.None of the roles are very hard to do as well.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

Make sure you go through the OTLSA (OpenText Livelink Certified Systems Administrator... something like that. It may be called something else now, i think. Keep those books you get, and POCs you have in those courses. There are physical and online courses. Expect to pay quite a bit. Instructors and other developers there will answer/mentor you on the fly, have questions!

You'll do OK, just remember to never stop learning. Get the basics out of the way, be very proficient w/ servers, then learn some coding and database stuff in case you're not already able to do basic database queries.
