I don't think VB6 supports it but does it support the ability to compile an app so that if someone downloads it it says our company name as the publisher instead of "Unknown publisher"?

Yes, you can sign VB6 applications. Sadly the old Authenticode, Microsoft's original code signing toolset, is no longer available from Microsoft (at least, I can't find it). However the following page outlines the process fairly comprehensively and provides links to current tools with which to do so:
