I am running BE V9.0 on W2K. Also have excahnge 5.5 on NT 4 (will upgrade soon)

I have configured a notification account under SMTP and enabled it. test works!!

I assigned that account to all of the alerts/notifications and checked my name to receive the e-mails.

In my Job properties I enabled notification and checked my name, even went into properties and tested my account- worked.

With all that done, I do not recieve any e-mail notifications. I would prefer to stick with SMTP as I do not have MAPI enabled.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Taken from SMTP help file in BE 9.0. You can locate this help file by; selecting Tools on the menu bar -> Configure Email and Pager Notification.

SMTP Configuration Properties
Before you can create rules that send SMTP mail, you must specify the settings for the SMTP account that sends mail.

Enable: Checking this box enables notification for the person until you open the SMTP Mail tab and uncheck the box.

SMTP mail server: The host name of your SMTP mail server. This name must be an IP address or a name that can be resolved to the host IP address for the server. It cannot be a Windows WINS name. You should be able to ping the host using this name.

SMTP port: The port used for sending SMTP mail. The default is port 25. Unless you are certain the port should be changed, we recommend that you keep the default value. Check with your SMTP mail system administrator if you are unsure.

Default sender: The full SMTP email address (e.g., first.lastname@location.xyz) for the sender. This must be a valid email address on your SMTP mail server. If valid, it will resolve on the SMTP mail server.
The address you provide here becomes the "From" name that sends mail when a notification is sent. You may want to create an SMTP mail profile specifically for this purpose.

Note If you don't supply a valid SMTP email address, the SMTP mail server will not resolve the addess and recipients won't be able to reply to mail messages they receive from this sender.

Thanks Marverick,

I read that info before and downloaded an updated manual from Veritas.

I ended up resolving the issue by clearing my W2k events and then checking new error messages. There was an underlying W2K issue that I resolved and it worked today for the first time in 2 months. My server account got corrupted on my AD server and I had to join a workgroup then rejoin the domain. Now the service accounts were not using cached credentials.

Thanks again,

Matt

I'm having the same problem. Here are my details: I've got 9 servers in my company (at different sites) all with Backup Exec 9.0 and only 2 of them ever send out notifications.
I configured notifications the same way on each server. They all use the same domain account for the service account.
Using the Test button works every time from all of the servers.

But it seems that the jobs just don't send notifications, that is, they don't appear to even try to send notifications.

I don't see any errors in the event logs, nor in the SMTP log in Exchange 2000.

I resolved it by using MAPI instead of SMTP.

I installed Exchange Admin tools on my Back up server, installed outlook 2000 then it worked.

Strange... Installed Outlook, and confirmed that it was working properly. But the MAPI config dialog just keeps telling me there is an "Unspecified MAPI Error" (how helpful) and to "check the MAPI client configuration (Outlook) and try again".

I will look into this more tomorrow.

Thanks!

manikm: Thanks! I'm glad someone can find useable answers in the Veritas site... For me, it always seems to be so hit or miss...
