I tried to perform a backup using the exchange agent with BE 9.1. But upon doing the backup, it kept failing at different points. Upon further investigating I found that Outlook had been locked up for each user that BE had attempted to backup.

What do I need to do to complete the following:

(1) Have a backup complete successfully?
(2) Not lockup each users MS Outlook?

I have searched through the documentation regarding BE 9.1 and Exchange Agent. It says noting about Outlook needing to be closed.

I'm using MS Exchange 5.5 (SP4) and Windows 2000 AS.

Thanks,
Sean

A few things to clarify.

1) The exchange agent is used to Backup the Exchange server, that is the IS, Mailboxes, Private & Public folders etc. It is not used to backup users *.pst files.

2) If users are using Outlook & have open *.pst files the backup jobs usually fails (Backup Exec has a know problem backing up open *.pst files). - Post use the exact error message - so we can make sure that is what is causing the failure.

If you wish to sucessfully backup open *.pst files you will need to use the Advanced Open File option.

Cheers

Here's the error that I'm getting.

Job ended: Friday, March 19, 2004 at 3:07:55 AM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xa00084f8 - The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost. Please check for network errors.

Final error category: Resource Errors

But the network connection is always there. I don't understand what is causing the timeouts?
