Setup:

NAS storage: BE 9.0, DLT Tape drive attached, with two remote clients installed for our Exchange server and file server. When I go to install the Exchange server agent upgrade, I am getting the following message:

"Unable to detect a previously installed version of BE which automatically approves this upgrade." Etc...

This happens when I go to add the key to BE. I've tried putting it in through add/remove programs and through serial numbers and registration under tools in the program. This seemed like it would be simple since the remote agents installed without a hitch. I've also applied the service pack 1 patch.

I've looked on the veritas site and found a technote ( TechNote ID: 243472) that walks through setting it up and it still isn't working.

This is on a win2k server platform. The NAS unit is Win2k powered with the tape drive attached to it. The NAS unit is the media server.

Any hints on getting this going are greatly appreciated!

I just did some more reading on the Veritas website. Saw an article saying the Exchange admin should be installed on the BE media server in order to install the Exchange agent for BE.

Please tell me this isn't true! Our media server is a NAS unit with the tape drive attached to it. For one thing, it's a windows powered O/S, not the typical Win2k server O/S and it didn't want to accept the exchange admin install because of that. Is there no way to backup our Exchange server since our BE is installed on the NAS unit?

Arrrgh!

To add, is the Exchange agent seperate from the Remote agent or is it when you send the remote agent the exchange agent installs as well?

Thanks,

BM

I installed the remote agent first, then tried the Exchange agent. Remote agent is a separate option as far as I know. It went in without any trouble unlike the Exchange agent. I'm bummed...

We purchased BE 9.0, two remote agents, and the exchange agent. Got it from Dell. This was supposed to be what we needed to backup our organization.
