BE 9.0 will not append to available media

A scheduled backup that runs onto two DLT tapes failed. So I created a new job to re-run the part that failed. I want it to append onto either of the two tapes. The second one should have plenty of space, but it will not load that one. I checked the media statuses. The first tape is full, so no append time is left. However the second tape is not full and Backup Exec 9.0 shows that it still has append time left. It is in the set of slots that the job is set to use. However the new job fails with the following message: "Unable to acquire media. The media set this operation is attempting to use can not be found. Please select another media set for this operation."

By default it is selecting "Media Set 1", even though there are no tapes in that set. But the frustrating thing is that it will not let me select the media set that I want it to use. So I tried deleting Media Set 1, but I still can't change it. So I tried deleting the job and recreating it. Now it doesn't offer me any choice at all for selecting Media Set. What the hell is going on here?? Why won't it take the tape that is obviously available???

I am having a similar problem. I have two jobs scheduled, one for differential backups and one for a full backup. The differentials append without an issue, but the full backup fails. I receive a different error, "A foreign media has been detected". The tape still has 150GB on it, and my full backup only requires 38GB. I'm also using Backup Exec 9.0. I'm running it on a Netware 5.1 server.

Any feedback would be appreciated...
