BE 8.6 Jobs Will Not Finish After Backup Concludes

We run BE 8.6 on 25 servers. Over the last few weeks, I've noticed a severe dropoff in backup speed from 300 + MB to less than 20 MB on five of the servers, which is messing up our backup schedule since the jobs take so long.

I checked the logs on these servers today, and the speed of the backups is actually fine. What's happening is that the backup finishes, but the job does not conclude. It just sits there for up to 24 hours before deciding it's done. I can bring up the details window and nothing appears in the window where the file being currently backed up usually appears.

This is not a verify as we are not running job verifications.

Any ideas as to a setting that may have gotten changed, or what might be causing this?

We have the same problem, just started to happen, and no changes have been made to the server. The backup job completes but still remains active, all patches from Veritas have been applied.

Any suggestions would be great

Out of curiosity, do you have "Eject Tape on completion" enabled ? if so turn it off for a backup and see what you get.

Sounds like something I found while researching my problem with Exchange mailboxes (which remains partially unsolved). :(

Anyway, take a look at the settings on your backup job - somewhere there's a setting that deals with prompts that the backup job sends you. If that setting is set to "wait for response to prompt", then your job will remain at 99% complete for an indefinite time.

Wish I could be more specific, but I saw that tip a couple of days ago, & it didn't seem to pertain to my problem, so I just noted it as a data point & kept looking for my answer...

Hope that helps, at least a bit!

It could be that it's set to Print the results out or email the results of the backup, but it cannot find the printer and/or it cannot find the email server to send you the results of the backup. In that case, it will hang. Sebastian Jazzer
