We are running BENT v8.6 on a W2K server and until yesterday we had a Compaq SDLT 110/220GB tape drive attached externally via SCSI. Everything was fine.
We purchased a Quantum Valueloader VS160 and connected that to the SCSI card using the same cable as the old tape drive - just swapped it from one to the other.
We then dowloaded the drivers from the Quantum website and we could see the VS160 in Device Manager, etc., and in BENT but only as a Standalone device.
Everything we read tells us we should see it as a Robotic device, but we don't.
When we try to write to it via a BENT backup job, we get a failure and 'No tape in Drive' although there is a tape in Slot 1.

Do we need any more drivers or additional configuration to get this working? Or maybe a patch for BENT 8.6 as we have discovered it is not on the Hardware Compatibility list for this version of BENT.
Any help would be appreciated.

It wont work in 8.6 ..not supported at all. 8.6 is no longer supported by Veritas as well. Your library was made way after the last veritas drive rupdate for 8.6
Upgrade to 9.1 or 10.x and it will work just fine.

Basically the Veritas driver package includes the library support - a list of supported librarues in a table. If the library is not in the list then it will just show the drive.
If you check your bediag your probably getting Invalid name on the library. If the library offers some type of other library emulation that is supported then you may get it to work.
