BE 8.5 and SQL 7.0 - DB Restore hangs at 1%

We have BE 8.5 on SQL 7.0 SP3 running on Windows Advanced Server 2000 with SP1.
We need to restore a DB which is approx 55MB. I can restore a smaller DB from the tape within 2-3 minutes but when I use this large DB to restore it just sit there at 1% and we let it sit for approx 2+ hours.
There is no error or response.
Any sugesstions.

Have a look in the event log, both system and application. Is there anything that indicates that there is a problem with the restore or SQL?
Have you recreated that database in the same size or bigger?
