I'm using BDE and the Interbase driver (Local server) to experiment with stored procedures. In the database desktop, I keep getting 'Unavailable Database' when trying to open an example table using the IBLOCAL alias. I can connect using IBMgr.EXE, and even use WISQL.EXE. I know I did this many years ago, but just don't know what I'm missing this time around.

Also, is there a good online primer for a stored prcedure newbie?

Database desktop?? this application only reads paradox and dbase tables.
You have to use the SQL- Explorer

FYI, in addition to Paradox/dBase, Database Desktop will read/write to whatever you can ODBC to as well.

From Delphi 3 to Delphi 6, I have used the database Desktop exclusively for paradox an dbase tables.
On the other hand I have been able with the SQL Explorer create/read/modify Paradox, Dbase, Access, SQL Server, Interbase and Oracle databases.
The only thing necessary is to define the alias in the BDE Administrator using the native drivers supplied by Borland or any ODBC 3rd party driver.
I think you are mixing things, or Borland have made some revolutionairy changes sinces Delphi 6.

Not mixing things here. It goes without saying BDE admin is required. Just thought I'd expand on your previous comment that DD "only reads paradox and dbase tables" and mention it will read/write to any database one can ODBC to. My original problem was trying to use it with the interbase client that came with Delphi. I was able to do it with Delphi v1.0, SQL links rings a bell. Thanks for your feedback.
