BDC to DNS Server SID Lookup Traffic??

I understand inter DC traffic in respect of why a BDC would be requesting SID lookups from a PDC.

Could someone explain why a BDC would be performing a SID lookup on a DNS server in order to determine it's validity?

Any help appreciated.
