I have one PDC and two BDC on my network and I have upgraded from NT SP4 to SP6 to clear problems with user passwords - this caused my BDC 1 to loose its server list and will not obtain a new one also the WINs is no longer working so I have to map to drives on the BDC1 using the ip address\sharename - I have tried upgrading to SP60a but its still not working - the PDC is configured to be the Master Browser with backup browser running on both BDC's - BDC2 never had this problem and both are configured the same...help ?

Are you seeing both the PDC and BDC's in the WINS manager?
Are all your servers at sp6a, They should be.
Do you have any other IP's on the servers?
If you do, Make absolutely sure the first IP listed on all the servers is in the same subnet (wicked important to avoid breaking wins)
If wins server is totally broken, And/or lists "ghost" servers that do not exist, Throw the wins service on another server and point all servers and clients at it (And reapply the service pack)

worst case, try putting lmhost entries (Ugh, I hate going here) on all servers to point towards one another.

You should be able to ping any one servername from another and have it resolve within 1-4 seconds. If you can't do that, Then you are in trouble.

In a large IP network, WINS is absolutley necessary.
If it breaks, Replication will die.

Good luck.

When in doubt.........FDISK! ;)

I have Sp60a on all - pdc and both bdc's
All can be seem in WINS Manager
I have other ips on the servers as they have two cards for two differant subnets - but i have them multihomed in the WINS database so that should not make a differance.
WINS does not seem to be broken and LMHOSTS are really only for remote domains. It is in the hosts file for its local domain. We can ping the BDC from the PDC because its been added to the PDC hosts file. Otherwise I get a 'no network found' in network neighborhood.
