I have 3 BCM50e systems out there that the customers don't know the passwords to. I have read all the stuff on TT about this subject, I believe. I have a spare system in my office that I am practicing on so that I can learn to do the reset and check the results before I go to the customer sites.
I have followed the directions but I am absolutely unable to get the lights to change at all when I push the reset button. I have tried it numerous times and there appears to be no effect at all on the system when I push the button, quickly, slowly, press and hold, doesn't matter. Nothing happens.
Also, I have read about the level 1 and level 2 reset and there are differing opinions on that. Is it true that no matter what you do you will lose your keycodes?
I have also been told that if you do lose your keycodes that if you put any new lic code in, say a mailbox seat, that it will bring all the other codes back up. I do not want to try this until I get confirmation from other techs.
Help!

On the BCM50 you can use the buttons to initiate a level 1 or 2 reset only on releases 1-3. Releases 5-6 require the nnadmin password. Both resets will delete the license file. Level 2 also deletes any patches installed. Yes, adding any keycode to a BCM50 will give you the entire license file for that system ID.

There is a password reset tool but you need Avaya Support to give you a specific file of the day to work with the reset tool. BTW Avaya's rates are 600.00 if you do not have PASS support on the unit. Option 2 is level 2 reset, reload patches, reload licenses, reprogram by hand.

Reprogramming is the easy part! Thanks, I will check that out.

One of the easiest ways is to read up the process of extracting the *.lic file from the BCM hard disk via a USB to SATA/IDE cable and using a windows program called Linux reader.

A number of use have used it and it does work as the tool allows you to "read" the BCM hard disk and extract the licencefile.txt file that contains the keycodes.

If you do have to reprogram the whole system, at least you can start off from scratch with them. Also add in a few more login accounts at the same time, and finally make sure that you do regular backups and configure the system to also save the data to the USB drive via a memory stick.

The last bit saves you from having to start a thread on a topic that we see on a weekly basis!.
