Just bought a Nortel BCM50, Wanting to upgrade our aging Norstar system, told this is the next one up.Bought a second hand system to get me going and familier, but no paper work with it. Found a shed load of info for it online, which is great. Problem i'm having is, that i cannot connect to the BCM, tried Default Passwords, but not getting in. The system seems to take agers to load up. Do i need to restore the system so i can access it with default passwords? if so, how do i do this AND! will that wipe all of the feature codes installed.

Thanks in advance
Jasper

You need to find a nortel vendor to help you get your keycode file. You are also going to need to totally wipe the system following a reset procedure outlined in the manual. This procedure will delete everything and that is why you need a Nortel vendor to download your keycode file for you. However, sometimes they can't access the file unless you add your own keycode to the system so be prepared to buy a cheap code of some kind.

Before you do anything, you might want to check that system's ID in KRS and make sure it's a legitimate registered system because if you do a level 2 reset on it, you will lose the keycodes. If that happens and the system is not registered in KRS (or can't be) you're screwed.

Whoever sold you that system should have known the password so if they don't, I would be very suspect.

Another thing, buying a BCM50 system used can be a pig in the poke depending on the licensing it comes with.

I would never buy a BCM50 with just an R1 license. It costs too much to upgrade as you have to upgrade to R3 ($400-600) and then to R6 (another $400-600.) You can get new R6 systems (no keycodes) for about $800 on ebay right now.

I would only consider getting an R2/R3 BCM50 based on what type of licensing it came with. If the pre-existing licensing is worth more than the cost of the R6 upgrade, then I would go for it.

Again, it's not always a deal to buy a BCM50 because what it's licensed for really dictates the value. Anything with R1 software is basically a paperweight because the upgrade costs are prohibitive vs buying a new one.

Telco... I have bought multiple used BCM50 systems on ebay without benefit of the PW. My vendor could see the KRS record for that system but could only download the license file AFTER she applied a keycode to it. So what I would do is buy a BCM50 and then apply an analog trunk license to it ($29) and I would be good to go.

Unless it's been changed, access the farthest left RJ45 port and try 10.10.11.1 and see if your default OMC connection will respond.

If it does and you have Norstar/Avaya support access, they can generate a password of the day for you with the system ID. That's a lot of ifs, but it's a possible solution

Lossing the will to live!

The seller does not have the password. He sent me the reset info... this hasnt worked.

Do not have an Avaya contract, so they cant help...

ANY ideas???

Got to play the game and contact an authorized dealer you play you pay.

Jasper83, did you follow my guide on the Norstar forum?. Another tip is to send us the MAC address that is located underneath the BCM 50 unit.

It might be possible to obtain the keycodes for you?.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

If this is an R5 opr R6 system I don't beleiev you can do a L1 or L2 reset without the password.

The pin in the reset hole doesn't work on those systems.

However nor will you lose the keycode after an L2 reset of a release 5 or 6 system
