I upgraded a BCM50 Rls3 to 5 and about had a coronary. I was told that I needed to install the Rls3 factory image patch before doing the upgrade. Can someone tell me what has worked for you when upgrading from Rls2 or 3 to Rls5?

Thanks,

Was it an r3 to begin with or was it upgraded to 3? That image is needed when doing a level 2 reset. When you upgrade you need to replace the factory image with the image you upgraded to.

The only reason I see to install the factory image would be if it bagan life as an older version and was upgraded previously. If it started as a rls 3, then the rls 3 factory image would already be there. If everything is working as expected, you should load the rls 5 factory image. Without it, if you do a reset, it will revert back to whatever release is on the factory image and you'll have to do the upgrade again.

This system was originally upgraded from 2 to 3. I don't agree that installing the Rls5 factory image is the way to do it. That requires reprogramming. My question is, when upgrading from 2 or 3, do you have to install the factory image for 2 or 3 when going to 5?

No. Once the upgrade is finished (your at R5) then you install the factory image for R5.

DigitelD, you do the upgrade first. If the upgrade is successful and the system is stable, then install the rls 5.0 factory image. How do you get "requires reprogramming" from that? If you do the upgrade and don't do the factory image and later have to do a database reset the system will revert back to the pre-upgrade version and you'll have to upgrade it all over again before you can load your backup.

DigitalD, loading the factory image doesn't mean you are putting the system to factory default, which it seems like what you're thinking. It's just as "oldestgeek" put it, It's just in case you need to level 2 reset the system in the future, it will remain Rls 5, otherwise it will be rls 2 or whatever it started at.
