Hi Guys;

I have a 50 rls1 that is dead, can I just migrate this (with the migration auth keycode) to a rls6 box and reprogram?
Or do I have to get an upgrade keycode as well?
I've been looking on that "Avaya website" (which is the bain of my existence) and around here but can't get/find the straight goods! So, if you would spell it out for my simple brain I would appreciate it!

Thanks.

Best option is to purchase Rls 6, put in a ticket with Avaya to have them move the key codes, send Rls 1 unit back to Avaya.
Worst case you will need to purchase key code migration.

This is a classic case of where an E-MetroTel would be the solution if the problem with the BCM is a dead hard drive.

You get a UCx50, and SSD drive for the BCM and a Digital Gateway license. Buy the appropriate number of user licenses and your away to the races.

You replace the failed drive with the SSD and that turns the BCM into the Digital Gateway and opens up all the digital and analog station ports on it you can program away to your heart's content. The added benefit is that you can add two expansion cabinets with DSM32 cards and you can go as high as 76 digital phones without licensing. That's more than they recommend on the UCx50.

You get all of the usual features for everyone without additional licensing and it is very simple to program. It is optimized for Nortel phones but you can also use many vendor's SIP sets on them including Cisco and Avaya.

And you get all this for about half the cost of the new R6 BCM. It's nice that the BCM is new and all, but it is a dead product and I really don't understand why anyone would invest any money into one (even though I believe it's one of the best systems ever manufactured).

If you haven't checked out the UCx yet, you might want to give it the once over before investing any more money into that BCM.

Good Luck whichever way you go.

Yeah I can definitely second that one Telcodog. I took an old fussy BCM50 RLS1 I purchased from ebay and replaced the hard drive with the SSD drive (all within a half hour) and with the license, all of my digital phones work wonderfully right along with my IP Phones. In fact, the digital M7000 and T7000 phones act a little bit more like the Meridian 1 phones than the old Norstar phones. They have added features that make them much more flexible to use than on the BCM/Norstar.

On my system at my home labl, I have Nortel 11xx, 12xx and i2xxx phones running along M and T sets along with an Avaya 9630SIP and Cisco 7970 SIP phone! Pretty cool!

You shouldn't need any additional keycodes. You can regenerate a keycode to a release 6 system even though the dead system is release 1. You can do this through krs online. Whenever we upgrade an r1 to an r6 we do this. A new system is cheaper than the 2 upgrade keycodes needed, plus they get brand new hardware. Only downside is you need to reprogram. But, being a bcm50, it shouldn't take longer than an hour to reprogram.

bluemr2 is absoultely right. do it every week. you will need at least Element Manager 63.0.x to load the regenerated keycodes into
the R6 box. patches not included so will need these first before starting the hand-keying
