BCM50 Release 6.0 Echo problem on analog trunks

Dear All,

I have a really problem, when I am talking form IP phone to external analog trunks, there is a lot of echo, but when talking from the digital sets, It's okay.

I have BCM50 6.0, there is also no patches on avaya site, Avaya guys told me that they tried to log in to the peps page for BCM but there is no peps or patches, do you know what could be the solution.
 
there was a patch for this problem on old BCM 50s, I believe 1.0
 
There is a doc that explains how to fix your situation. I don't remember what its called at the moment, but rebooting the BCM should fix your problem.
 
you need to do line tuning for analog trunks. there's an option on analog trunks settings on EM called line tuning digit (0-9) which should be the same as CO site. first set it and reboot the BCM. During boot up it will automatically tune the lines and echo will disappear.
 
Setting the loop length to "Long" sometimes helps. You can also buy add-on attenuators that are placed in line on each trunk.You can order them at sandman.com/echo.html. Here's their claim:
"If you always hear echo on every call, and you don't
hear echo using your Butt-set, there's a 99% chance
the Echo Stopper™ will eliminate the echo.

That's it!"

If there's an impedence mismatch between equipment and line, echo will be present on all calls to a degree but may not be noticable on call from TDM sets. When using an IP set, delay is introduced which greatly increases any echo that may be present.

 
Thanks guys, but if the mismatching in impedence is existed, how can I comeover it?
 
Get your hands on that manual that tech1979 is talking about. It might even be in the documentation on the BCM by now. If it's not, you can probably download it from the Avaya website without needing a login.

There are several things you need to do optimize the system setup to minimize the issue. Have a look at it, do what it says then if the problem persists, come back on here for help.

Document is called Managing Echo on BCM and SRG V2.1

Just an FYI, if you look at paragraph 4.1.1 it tells you that line tuning can not work on Centrex type analog lines.... I have run into this issue several times.
 
The reason it will not work on centrex analog trunks because the co's are dynamic ( part of a pool ).
 
Don't know where your guys are looking but there are plenty of patches on the Avaya site for BCM's 400-450-50's.
 
That just tells you how to tune the analog trunks. It doesn't tell you anything about how to set up the other things that need attention when you use ip phones on a system with analog trunks, which is what causes the echo problem.

Just read through that document that was written specifically to address this issue and deo what it says. The echo problems will disappear completely or minimized to a tolerable level.
