Bcm50 R6 and Nortel i2007 IP Phone

Greetings Telco friends,

I have a BCM50 R6 will all latest patches.

I would like to know if the Nortel i2007 IP phones (NTDU 96) are compatible with no issues with the BCM50?

I would like to add a few to my collection but want to make sure they work.

Got caught buying Nortel 1165 IP phones in the past and they are not compatible with BCM50!

Yes i2007 is compatible.
Cannot recall if any issues but I had a couple running, I have them shelved at the moment.

Yes, they are OK as I recently dug out my old one and plugged it it to see if the latest firmware worked.

Blacky Bear you picked my curiosity since 1 year i have a 1165e on a BCM450R6, in my book BCM450 and 50 are not that far !

So i tryed to connect a 1165e to a BCM50R6 and it work same as my BCM450

Only the 2 first button are not reconized, beside of this the phone is 100% working normaly.

Under IP phone settings in Element Manager, what does the firmware version show against the 1165 phone?

But don't base it on my BCM i changed my IP frimwares bank in the bcm for lastest Nortel one... the Nortel boot up jingle is nicer

When i tested it on your BCM50 i cheated, i stopped the service UFTPSERVER first to be sure the BCM don't upgrate it to AVAYA or SIP depending of the BCM lastest patch.

That explains it as I had loaded in the 0626C96 firmware file via the Linux command line on my own test system.

You have to manually install the 1165 firmware using the dark art method.

Blackbear, there is a easy way for common mortal to make it work, just stop the service UftpServer, and manage your Firmware update via TFTP, BCMR6 lastest patch for some reasons convert the 1165e model to SIP firmware by the BCM, and the bcm don't support SIP, if UftpServer is active in same time of 1165e, you will get a nice non working 1165e for that BCM, but you can convert it back to unistim by TFTP, this is many step to manage but this is possible.

I am curious to know where you will get your 1165e, they are very rare to find! I search often on ebay i got mine after around 6 months of searching... but all others 11xx are very common and cheap.

Rare because so they were so bloody expansive and only good with Succession.

You just need to keep and eye out with ebay, craigslist, kijiji etc.

You are totaly right curlycord, i can get a 1140e for 30$ on ebay but my 1165e i got it for around 250$.

Without getting too far of the main topic, i heared that nortel planned to make a compatibility with the Application Gateway for the BCM platform, do it work ? or the project get abandoned like the SIP project ? If i talk about it it's because running applicationa on a 1165e is really a big upgrade and open many
opportunities ! Like going on internet with
