I know this may sound daft, however I'm patchin g my first BCM50 R3 and was looking at the dependencies of some patches and it sataes below.

Patches should be applied in the order below:
BCM050.R300.CORE-TELEPHONY-PROVIDER-9 or later
BCM050.R300.CORE-8 or later,
BCM050.R300.DSPFIRMWARE-7.

My question is which one should be applied first, DSPFIRMWARE-7 or CORE-TELEPHONY-PROVIDER-9 ?

Logic would tell me to do it

(1) BCM050.R300.CORE-TELEPHONY-PROVIDER-9 or later
(2) BCM050.R300.CORE-8 or later,
(3) BCM050.R300.DSPFIRMWARE-7.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I was thinking that too, but the numbers associated with each patch would suggest the opposite. A little confusing.....

Those numbers have no relationship to each other, they are like Rls number of the Patch.
