I've had 3 BCM50 R1 crap out on me in the last 2 months because of HDD failures. All were installed around the same time 4 years ago. Is this a known issue with Nortel and their poor choice of HDD manufacturers(as with the cap issue on the 200/400s) or is it just bad luck?

is that all

Come to my patch and see the problems we have with failed hard drives

i have had release 1 HDD failures as well all around 4 years old too....i reimage a 40 or 80 gb sata HDD then patch it then restore a backup then add the keycode file and all is then ok

So far, all of the BCM hard disk failures that I've known have all been the release 1 versions. I've never had to replace the actual BCM unit (Motherboard). I usually carry spare BCM 50 hard disk images from release 1 to 3.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Keep in mind HD have about a 3-5yr lifespan. Remember they're constantly going unlike on a pc where u can turn it off. In one week I replaced 6 on bcm 400s.

So I take it there's no Nortel program to replace these drives under any sort of product recall a la the MSC cards?
I know it been referenced before, but can someone post a link for instructions on how to reimage a drive.

Thanks,

Hi Firebird,

Do you have any tip on creating an BCM50 image ? Do you use Ghost or some other Unix/linix tools to do it ?

Thanks,
