Greetings all. I have inherited some of the responsibilities for looking after a BCM50 at my work, and it has apparently been doing some funky things in the past, some of which I have been able to resolve, and some not.

Here are some of my questions:

in Element Manager, under Telephony->Sets->Active Sets->line access, phones are set to Fwd No Answer to the CallPilot extension. Is that how voicemail is supposed to be set up for DNs or does that sound rigged to you?

secondly, the 'main' phone in our office has all of our outside lines set for it under line assignments, and then, we have various other phones around the office with that 'main' phone set as an Answer DN for them, so that various people can pick up the incoming calls from all of the outside lines. is that how that is supposed to work or should we be using ring groups?

item 1 is correct.

item 2 is ok if u want to answer all calls (internal & external) ringing that set.

thanks for the reply :)

first, another quick question. is there a way to adjust the timeout for the auto attendant? we have a limited amount of lines, and if i call and get routed to the auto attendant and hang up immediately, i can see in the monitor that my call continues to tie up a line for at least 2 minutes even though ive already hung up. can that be shortened any?

second, to elaborate on my earlier question some more:

the reason i was wondering about Answer DN is in regards to voice mail. will triggering a phone to act as an Answer DN for another cause the phone to send a call to voice mail?

here is an example of what i mean.

lets say i have a 'main' phone that all the main calls are coming in on, and there are 3 other extensions that have their own voice mail that have set the 'main' phone up as an Answer DN so that they can pick up the calls if noone is at the main phone.

since these 3 phones ring, and have their own voicemail box's, if noone is at the 'main' phone, will one of the other phones pick up the call and forward it to their own voicemail box's because they are ringing when the 'main' phone rings?

make sure you have disconnect supervision enabled on you lines in trunk data

the call will go to the original ringing set
so if the main set is 221 for example and it rings ,and it rings on the other sets under the answer dn the call will go to the 221 mailbox

HALLOWED ARE THE ORI

That will depend on the ring count on the phones. If Recept has 6 rings and the other have 4 it will go into one of the other phones MB. But if the rings are the same it will revert to to recept MB

thanks for the help all.

im thinking that answer DNs are not going to be the answer for what im looking to do.

here is a question, what if i want calls that are transferred and not picked up to revert back to the auto attendant? is that what DRT is for? if so, how do i set the 'prime set' to revert them back to the AA?

The TRANSFER CALLBACK TIMER is for seting how long a call will ring before being transfer back to the originator.

EG: if a call had been transferred by the AA then it will ring the phone until the timer is up( eg 6 rings) then transfer back to the AA.
But if a called extn is forwarded to VMail after 4 rings the the call will go to that mailbox because that timer has activated first.

The best thing for you would be to use HUNT GROUPS.

Set up a hunt group and add your extns that you want to ring as MEMBERS.eg: 222,223,224

Then forward call from the reception phone to the Hunt group you set up EG: 461 hg1

EG: forward 221 to 461 HG1 after 4 rings.

this way calls ringing the reception phone will start ring the extns in the Hunt group if there not answered.

Bonus is that calls ringing Huntgroup Members will ignore any call forwarding on the called extns, thus avoid going into there voicemail.

Hope this helps
