I just inherited a new location with a BCM50 that over the last week suddenly all the phones would say on the display no lines available. If a person is on the phone the call is dropped, they can't draw dial-tone and can't place calls internal. it will be in this state for an hourish and then just come back. I have no idea as to how this system was installed but with those symptoms is this most likely a PBX issue or a telco issue? The fact that they can't make internal calls makes me think PBX but the up and down sounds like it could be telco.

The first thing to do is to log in and get a few decent FULL backups. I agree with you in that it could be on the BCM system. It's possible the hard disk is on the way out.

Early BCM 50 systems had the 40 gig Maxtor hard disk which were troublesome. The later 80 gig Seagate versions were much better.

You might have to purchase another hard disk and software image and reload in a backup you have taken.

I should also have said that you should log into the BCM system via the Element Manager tool and take a look at the Alarms as this would give you a strong indication on what has been going on.

Thx FirebirdScrambler, I'm still trying to get access and plan to reach out to the local vendor there to review alarms but that will take some time to set up. I didn't want to waste that time if the issue looked to be a Telco problem and was looking to see if the symptoms supported one way or another. I still feel and based on your suggest think this is a PBX issue and not a Telco one. Thx

Your right, no way it's a carrier issue if internal intercoms do not work.
I also agree being an HD issue.

I gather a reboot was done?

No not yet. Like I said I just got this location I don't have passwords or anything yet not even sure what level the system is or anything. I was going to suggest the next time the issue came up we just do a power cord reboot, but if it doesn't come back I don't yet have a tech lined up.

I would recommend getting a backup first and only then power cycling the system. If the hard drive is failing, there is a chance that the system won't come up after that. So, make sure you have a good backup before you do that.
