Please excuse any lack of understanding of technical terms

Hi. I am planning an install of a BCM50 system with 2 lines and 6 extensions. My reseller has advised me that I need to connect the BCM to a patch panel in a U next to my LAN connections. My question is that I do not need or require any integration with my network server or pc workstations (at least I don't think I do), can I not just get a wall mounted unit for the BCM? Does the wall mounted unit include a breakout box i.e. to do away with the patch panel?

If you ever plan on using IP telephony then you need to add it to your network. If you only plan on using the BCM50 as a standalone digital PBX, (which is money well wasted) then wall mounting is fine.

Thanks nsantin for your quick reply. I can see the benefits of connecting to our server and therefore to our adsl router in the future. Would you therefore recommend a patch panel? Do the connections run from NETWORK SWITCH >> PATCH PANEL U1 || PATCH PANEL U2 << BCM50. Reading about patch panels so far, I understand they have no intelligence so do I need one (or more) connections from the BCM50 into the network switch via the patch panel?

Also, if you will permit me another question - does the BCM50 have an ip address on my network i.e. 198.168.6.**?

Thanks for your advice.

The BCM will become a node on your network, you will need to assign it an IP address, then manage/configure via the element manager interface.

Do you not have a vendor to assist? It can be quite challenging to install and configue a BCM without any formal training/experience. I would suggest you get a vendor to assist with your install, will save you tons in the future.

Thanks for your reply. I am still a little confused about the patch panel i.e. mainly what it is needed for. I will have to ask my vendor move questions but just to clarify, is the wall mounted kit also a breakout box to house my RJ 45 connectors? If so what use is the patch panel?
